Before the Featured Presentation, A Villanelle

From time to time, I'm moved to write some poetry. Not too much, because it's well-known that dedicated poets are utterly repelled by all prospects of steady income, but I do have some interest (and, God help me, perhaps some very small measure of aptitude). Today I attempt the form so successfully undertaken by such luminaries as Dylan Thomas and Sylvia Plath. The tone of the piece seemed called for after yesterday's post.

Let's all go to the lobby
And let's get ourselves some snacks
The movies are my hobby.

Oh please, don't you be snobby
So please cease all your attacks
Let's all go to the lobby

We shan't do as you've lobbied
I'll hear no more of your cracks
The movies are my hobby.

I know I'm rather slobby
but I beg you to relax
Let's all go to the lobby

This one's set in Abu Dhabi
I've heard there's a great climax
The movies are my hobby.

Just like when we saw "Bobby"
You'll enjoy it to the max
Let's all go to the lobby
The movies are my hobby

It's worth noting that this post is the 300th since I began this blog on the 29th of last January: a period of four hundred and sixty-two days. Given the gaps that have punctuated my writing for it, and the fact that I have some time ago settled into the habit of posting just once a day, that strikes me as an accomplishment of some note. I guess I've been rather prolific, and I hope this has meant that some wheat has made itself known in the midst of a surely larger quantity of chaff.
